Green Team
Spreading our love for the earth, as far as it can reach!
What does Green mean to you? The first step towards a greener life may be something as simple as picking up litter from the street, taking public transportation once a month, or using a glass instead of a paper cup. In an effort to raise more green awareness at Alcuin, we’ve created the Green Team.
Mission Statement
The goal of Alcuin’s Green Team is to reduce our community's carbon footprint and become more effective stewards of the earth. We will educate ourselves and each other in the areas of reducing, reusing and recycling. We will evaluate and improve our classroom programs and practices to make our school more environmentally responsible. We will promote sustainable habits in our families and thoughtful, environmentally-conscientious decision-making in our children. We will spread our love of the earth as far as it can reach!
How We Help
To assist us with our endeavor, we’ve also joined the Go Green Initiative! Alcuin Montessori School is now among an elite group of schools in 46 U.S. states, Canada, Asia, Mexico, Europe and Africa that are pioneers in creating environmentally responsible campuses.
One of the Green Team’s first official acts is to welcome "Waste-Free Wednesdays". We’d like to encourage all families to use reusable containers, bento boxes and more to try to make a waste-free lunch for their child every Wednesday. Are you up for the challenge?
Check back for easy tips on how to be a bit Greener, Waste-Free Wednesdays ideas and news on what we are doing in the school as a community and as individuals. So whether it’s how to create a greener lunch, what’s the best way to start a worm compost or simply recommending a great green book we’ve recently read, we are here to help and share.
